The client used to be a resident in France, and was deeply inspired by the delicate neo-renaissance aesthetic of the City of Light. The interior design of this retail outlet was requested to be done in a classy and sophisticated way – something that was trendy but not overwhelming. So the ambience was crafted to be posh and understated with a dash of restrained glamour.
As in any retail, the display was to be given special consideration. This resulted in a bright white color scheme that would definitely make the handmade gifts and decorations pop.
The design team paid special focus to the product display. Nid D’oiseaux is a concept lifestyle store that promotes an artisanal way of living, so each product has to be the focus of display. This means that the backdrop was relegated to crisp, understated tone of white that make all the handmade gifts and decorations the focal point of this interior.
Additionally, the ambience was inspired by the delicate elegance of contemporary French interiors and nature. Since there are no shopping malls in the area, the shop exterior has to be paid special attention. Its bright yellow exterior is reminiscent of beautiful sidewalk boutiques.
The exterior was designed in bright colours to seem more inviting and cozy. The overall aesthetic with its wooden façade resembles that of a French Boutique exterior with a large window display that gives a view of all the amazing products featured inside. Together, the exterior and see-through interior were designed as a collaborative incentive to invite as many clients inside the shop as possible.
The yellow coloured finish of the storefront is accented with warm lighting that highlights the casual coziness of the interior. The classical style beading on the lower half of the façade is reminiscent of the French renaissance style – delicate but extremely classy and timeless.
The shop features a small workstation platform that has been especially designed to promote handicraft classes. The adjoining area is spacious enough to accommodate a small audience whenever needed.
One of the feature displays called for a showcase of Birdhouse Poles, so an entire wall was dedicated to this specific item. It has been customized for showcasing these Poles along with a retinue of other handicraft products.
A tall chalkboard on the very side has been installed for in-house promotions on all the products.
Handmade products are a definite novelty – especially of the kind Nid D’oiseaux specializes in. Many of these include sculptures and unique antiques, which need special displays of their own. So small and large table displays have been strategically placed all around the store to accommodate the showcase of these unqiue items.
The cash counter has been designed in a simple but classic fashion with a decent back-wall to boot. Just like the rest of the interior, it has a unique understated quality that speaks of timeless classics.
The overall feel and aesthetic of the Nid D’oiseaux store features a chic yet welcoming vibe. It is a testament to the masterful articulation of the foreign design in a cozy and pleasant way that has made this shop a definite one-in-a-million.
